IPL 2024: Rohit Sharma's fighting century in vain as CSK beat MI by 20 runs

Rohit Sharma scored his second IPL century, but it didn't help Mumbai Indians win as Matheesha Pathirana took four wickets,and limiting them to 186/6 in 20 overs, and Chennai Super Kings won by 20 runs at Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.

MI is now in eighth position:

After their 20-run win against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) match, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) moved up to third position with four wins and two losses, and giving them eight points.

Meanwhile, MI is now in eighth position with two wins and four losses, and totaling four points. In the chase for 207 runs, Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan started well.

They slowly built their innings, hitting boundaries off the pacers Tushar Deshpande, Shardul Thakur, and Mustafizur Rahman.

Rohit reached his fifty in 30 balls:

Rohit and Ishan's partnership reached 70 runs before Pathirana got Ishan out for 23 runs. Then, Suryakumar Yadav was caught by Mustafizur, and MI was 70/2.

Although Rohit scored his second IPL century in 61 balls, MI couldn't win. Their innings ended at 186/6, with Rohit and Mohammed Nabi unbeaten.

Pathirana was CSK's top bowler:

Pathirana was CSK's top bowler with 4 wickets for 28 runs, while Tushar and Mustafizur took one wicket each.

Earlier, Gaikwad and Dube scored half-centuries, and Dhoni hit three sixes in the last over, taking CSK to 206/4 against MI at Wankhede Stadium.

MI chose to bowl first:

MI chose to bowl first. They got an early wicket, dismissing Ajinkya Rahane for five runs. Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra built a partnership, with Gaikwad reaching his fifty in 33 balls.

Dube also scored a fifty, and CSK reached 206/4, with Dhoni and Dube unbeaten. Pandya was MI's best bowler with 2 wickets for 43 runs, while Gopal and Coetzee took one wicket each. CSK scored 206/4 in the IPL 2024 match, and they was winning against MI's 186/6.
