Microsoft appoints Pavan Davuluri, an IIT Madras alumnus to lead the windows teams

Microsoft undergoes leadership changes with Pavan Davuluri leading Windows, Parakhin's team integrating into AI, and Rajesh Jha overseeing Surface and Windows. The aim is to enhance collaboration and innovation.

Pavan Davuluri, an IIT Madras alumnus:

Pavan Davuluri, an IIT Madras alumnus, has been appointed as the new head of the Microsoft Windows team, after the reunion of the Windows and Surface teams within Microsoft.

With his extensive experience at Microsoft and having overseen Microsoft's hardware projects, Davuluri has been selected to lead the development efforts on both fronts.

Windows Central made a decision:

This decision, mentioned by Windows Central, comes after a separation period when Windows briefly came under Microsoft's new AI organization.

Bringing together the Windows and Surface teams shows a return to a familiar setup in Microsoft's Engineering and Devices department, led by Rajesh Jha.

About Pavan Davuluri:

Pavan Davuluri oversaw Microsoft's hardware projects previously. Now, he also leads Windows engineering.

Parakhin’s role:

Parakhin, who used to oversee products such as Bing and Edge, now, has given the responsibility of managing Windows, in addition to his current role as CEO of Web and Advertising at Microsoft.

Following recent changes at Microsoft, including Mustafa Suleyman being positioned as the CEO of a new AI division, there was a review of how teams are organized.

Parakhin's team move to the new AI division, this prompted him to consider looking for opportunities outside the company.

Rajesh Jha’s role:

Subsequently, Rajesh Jha now oversees both Surface and Windows development.

Windows enthusiasts encouraged these changes made by Microsoft in order to improve collaboration and unity between hardware and software efforts of Microsoft.

Five things to know about Pavan Davuluri:

1. He graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.

2. From the University of Maryland in the United States, Davuluri completed his Master of Science degree.

3. Davuluri has been associated with Microsoft for about 23 years, starting his career as a Reliability Component Manager.

4. He became the head of Microsoft Windows and Surface after Panos Panay left for Amazon.

5. At Microsoft, Davuluri was given various roles like overseeing Windows Silicon and Systems Integration before his current position.

Davuluri also jointly worked with - Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google's parent company, Alphabet, and Satya Nadella, the CEO of Microsoft.

Other Indian-origin CEOs of global tech companies are - Ravi Kumar S of Cognizant, Arvind Krishna of IBM, Nikesh Arora of Palo Alto Networks, Neal Mohan of YouTube, and Shantanu Narayen of Adobe.

Changes happening at Microsoft:

Microsoft is making changes by appointing Mustafa Suleyman, a DeepMind co-founder, as the CEO of a new AI division. Consequently, Mikhail Parakhin's team has been integrated into this new AI division.

As Microsoft is aiming to introduce more advanced AI features and Arm-based Surface hardware, the changes were made.
